Every day, I read the comment section on my channel and wonder whether any of the people who spout negativity about EVs have even driven one. For the most part the answer is no. I don’t quite understand the motive for spouting FUD from their perspective, but they do.

Given that I originally started the YouTube channel to document my experience with my MG ZS EV (as of writing, at 57,600 miles – should’ve had a battery replacement 12 months ago or something…), I feel that education is the way forward.

As a result, I think it’s important to discuss the most important meet of all: EVs Up North 2023!

FYI: if you haven’t checked out the video, I’ve left a link here: https://youtu.be/4y4N-nr-Pz4

We started the flagship meetup in 2022, and in that time the different EVs that come along have increased – This year we had 27 cars in total of all different shapes and sizes – It’s not only the Leaf and the Zoe! We even had a Lexus RZ (courtesy of Lexus Hull) and Tesla Sheffield also brought their Model 3 and Y.

One aspect I’ve tried to integrate better in the videos are more concise talks with real EV owners. In this video, we had a look at a MG4 owned by Dan, an E-2008 owned by Ivan (one of our admin team) and finally we had a great discussion with Matt about his BMW i3.

At the meet, there is an excellent atmosphere of discussion and chat. I spoke with someone who was passing by and my realisation was he had a lot of statements which were being floated about by a lot of media outlets (Definitely *not* the Daily Mail and Telegraph).

For example, the batteries need to be replaced after 5 years and they can’t be recycled was an interesting one. Clearly, given what EVs were on show (we had a few that have lasted the 5+ years without needing multiple battery replacements), that was going to be incorrect. Plus, there are plenty of videos demonstrating that even when EV batteries are not as useful in cars, they can have second lives as stationary storage, and then finally be recycled with over 95% of material recovered (and we’re getting better by the day)

However, a lot of media outlets have no incentive to showcase this, and that’s why this events such as EVs Up North, with the footfall we get from the Rotherham Show, is such an important event. Plus, it’s great to get out when Paul has sorted the weather for us! So come join us at the meets, I think you’ll be very surprised!
